Features of Polyester

People may noticed the polyester swab of our cleanroom swab products, and should be curious about the material we use for the swab head. Today, I am going to show you more details about the polyester. Polyester, sometimes called as Dacron and PET, is a kind of synthetic whose manufacturing process is the simplest between the three famous synthetics. It is widely used not only for its cheaper price, but also for its various features as follows:
1.    High intensity. The strength of short fiber is 2.6-5.7 cN/dtex, and the high-strength fiber can even be 5.6-8.0 cN/dtex. Due to the low hygroscopicity, its wet strength is almost the same with dry strength. The impact resistance is 4 times higher than nylon and 20 times higher than viscose fiber.
2.    Good elasticity. Polyester’s elasticity is close to wool, even when extended more than 5%-6%, it can easily completed restored. The wrinkle resistance is better than other fibers, which means the polyester fabric do not wrinkle and has a good dimensional stability. The elastic modulus is 22-141 cN/dtex, 2-3 times higher than nylon. That’s why it is firm, durable and anti-crease.
3.    Formed by the melt-spinning method, the heat-resistant polyester fiber can be molded again, as it is a kind of thermoplastic fiber. Polyester’s melting point is high while specific heat capacity and thermal conductivity are small, that’s why the heat resistance and insulation resistance of polyester fiber is higher than other synthetics.
4.    Thermoplastic good, bad anti-fluxing. Polyester is one of the best heat-resistant fabric for its smooth surface and close internal molecular arrangement.
5.    Good wear resistance.
6.    Good lightfastness.
7.    Corrosion resistant.
8.    Poor dyeing, but good color fastness.
All of the features above made polyester a most popular fabric, that’s why we choose it to be our swab material.
